DISCIPLINE PROCEDURE

One of our greatest services that we can provide is to hold youth accountable for their behavior in a manner that helps them understand the consequences of their behavior, yet not diminish their sense of self-esteem and self image.

Members, parents, and guardians are expected to abide by the following Code of Conduct:

  1. Treat all club members and staff with respect.
  2. Respect the Club property and take pride in keeping it clean.
  3. Participate in activities that are offered at the club. Loitering in and around the Club property will not be permitted.
  4. Profanity, fighting, harassment, and stealing will not be tolerated.
  5. The use or distribution of cigarettes, alcohol, or illegal substances in or on the property of the Club is prohibited.
  6. Dangerous weapons will be confiscated and may result in the contact of authorities.

The above Code of Conduct is a provided general guideline relevant to the behavior of all persons utilizing the Appoquinimink Boys & Girls Club.

Members and Parents can expect the following process to happen when behavioral incidents occur:

  1. Verbal Reprimand – At the time of the first incident the staff member, who witnessed the event, will discuss with the member the misbehavior and what positive behaviors are expected.
  2. Written Documentation and Parent Notification – A verbal reprimand will be made by the appropriate full-time staff, along with a written documentation of the incident. The parent is notified with-in 24 hours of the incident. Both the member and parents are made aware of the consequences of continued misbehavior.
  3. Parent Conference – A meeting with the Unit Director or appropriate full time staff, member, and parent will take place. A coordinated effort to improve the behavior of the member will be discussed. At this time, possible suspension from the club will be discussed as consequence of further misbehavior.
  4. Suspension – The member will be suspended for a period of one to five days depending on the severity of the incident. The parent will be asked to come pick up their child. If the parent or any other family member cannot be contacted, the member will be placed in a supervised “time out” until someone can be contact. A parent conference must be held before the member will allow back into the Club program. At this time a behavior contract will be determined.
  5. Expulsion – Of the above steps do not alleviate the behavior problems the member will be expelled from the Boys & Girls Club program.

Any severe behavior that risks the safety and well being of staff, members, or visitors will result in immediate suspension from the Club and may result in criminal prosecution. In addition, the use of or distribution of alcohol or illegal substances on the Club property will result in immediate suspension from the Club. Any of the above situations may result in permanent revocation of an individual’s Club membership.
